Kamieskroon – In search of the Phantom Quiver Tree Forest

We heard about a quiver tree forest in the Kamieskroon area. Phillip also heard about it but has never been there. He borrowed us a map where previous guests marked the “forest”, so we packed a hamper and set off
The Kammiesberg Pass is relatively easy, but unwary souls or those speeding can be expected to run into trouble, as attested by a plaque remembering a local guy who died on the pass just before his 21st birthday. Such a sobering reminder made me drive slower than I normally would.
The scenery varied from rocky ridges to plains almost like those you find in the Karoo and Kalahari.
We never found the quiver tree forest, although north of Nourivier there are literally hundreds of quiver trees – probably the forest.
